Phīla Engaged Giving seeks a 32 hours/month contract Project Manager for The Share Fund, a client-owned grantmaking program that has adopted a community-based, participatory grantmaking model. This role is a one-year contract position with the option to renew.

About The Share Fund

The Share Fund is a grantmaking body focused on supporting racial and gender justice in Washington State. The Fund is financially supported by a Seattle-based couple who is committed to sharing both wealth and power with BIPOC communities across the state. As such, the Fund operates under a Participatory Grantmaking (PGM) model in which a 7-member BIPOC Funding Committee is solely responsible for all grantmaking decisions.

The Share Fund launched in January of 2021 and has since completed five grant cycles, distributing over $3.5 million to individuals, companies, community groups and nonprofit organizations operating in Washington State. The Funding Committee meets monthly and in 2026 will distribute $1.5 million in grants.

Responsibilities of The Share Fund Project Manager

This is a contract position that requires approximately 32 hours per month. The role reports to the lead advisor for The Share Fund, who serves in an overall advisory role for both the committee and the donors. There is also an outside expert facilitator who leads the meetings, and who the Project Manager collaborates with closely.

The Project Manager will need to attend several in-person events throughout the year as well as monthly Zoom calls with the Funding Committee. Beyond those scheduled events, the hours are generally flexible and will consist of the following work areas:

1. Project Management/Group Management (70%)

● Act as the primary point of contact for the Funding Committee members throughout the year. Communicate regularly with each committee member, ensuring they know what is expected of them and feel supported in their role.

Schedule monthly meetings, create agendas, lead on onboarding and offboarding committee members and help to identify new committee members when current ones roll off.

● Manage and report on The Share Fund’s annual community building budget

● Ensure The Share Fund website and other outreach materials are updated and accessible to anyone who might want to learn about the Fund’s work.

● Project manage the quarterly Share Fund newsletter.

Follow the work of the participatory grantmaking (PGM) community as well as the work of local nonprofits, sharing relevant learning and news with Funding Committee members.

2. Grants Assistance (20%)

● Work closely with Phila’s Grants and Data Manager to ensure the annual portfolio of grants go out smoothly.

Manage grantee communications including sending out award letters, collecting necessary information from grantees and answering questions with a flexible and warm approach.

Communicate with the client and their advisors to ensure necessary tax filing information is collected for grantees as well as committee members.

● Be the face of the Share Fund for Share Fund grantees. Actively reduce barriers, create connections and serve as a resource for grantees, past and present.

3. Community Building (10%)

● Plan all aspects of two in-person grantee and committee member gatherings per year. The spring event takes place in eastern Washington while the fall event takes place in Seattle.

Assist Funding Committee in building community among Share Fund grantees by collecting stories, finding opportunities for collaboration and supporting Funding Committee members in their efforts to advance the work of grantees.

Along with the Phīla team, contribute to the growing field of participatory grantmaking (PGM) by finding ways to showcase and share the work of The Share Fund with relevant funding audiences, and building the case for PGM as an actionable means of wealth redistribution within the context of family philanthropy.

Qualifications for the Role

The ideal candidate for this position will:

Live in WA State and be familiar with the nonprofit sector statewide.

● Have a deep appreciation and love of working in community with a group of people from varied backgrounds and experiences with philanthropy.

Be a natural leader/listener. You will have deep curiosity for people and enjoy moving a group of busy individuals through the grantmaking process without directing or advising, but rather following the lead of the group and holding them accountable to what they’ve set out to do.

● Appreciate and enjoy digging into the technical side of grantmaking. You’ll need to work closely with committee members to help them understand their grantmaking budget and the options available to them. You’ll also be a partner to the Grants & Data Manager to make sure grants go to the intended recipients with clear communication throughout.

● Have impeccable integrity and judgment, while upholding The Share Fund’s commitment to radical trust, teamwork and collaboration.

● Be a natural self-starter, always looking ahead to what’s needed next.

Be open to learning, flexible, and curious as The Share Fund continues to define its own process of Participatory Grantmaking (PGM).

● Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills with a strong attention to (and appreciation for) detail and branding.

● Be committed to furthering the practice of Trust-Based Philanthropy and Participatory Grantmaking.

Compensation

The salary for this role is $55/hour based on 32 hours a month, paid monthly. This is a one-year contract position, with the option to renew.
